Board of Education
The Governing Board members of the Mesa Vista Consolidated School District work hard to help maintain high standards in education. They are dedicated to ensuring all students in the district receive a quality education and achieve their academic goals.

Marvyn Jaramillo, Board President

Marvyn Jaramillo graduated from Mesa Vista High School in 1995.  Shortly after graduation, he decided to join the National Guard and went on to boot camp in Fort Knox, Kentucky.   After boot camp, he completed advanced individual training in Aberdeen, Maryland. 

Upon completion of military training, Mr. Jaramillo went on to Northern New Mexico Community College, where he received his AAS degree in Criminal Justice.  He then decided to further his education and graduated from New Mexico Highlands University with a BA in Criminal Justice. 

In 1999, his law enforcement career began with the New Mexico State Police.  He then moved on to San Juan Tribal Police, Tesuque Tribal Police, and New Mexico Adult Probation and Parole.  In 2004, he was deployed to Iraq to defend his country where he completed an 18 month deployment.  Today, Marvyn is currently a Deputy with the Santa Fe Sheriff's Department. 

He has 14 years experience in Law Enforcement and is still active with the NM National Guard.  He has served 18 years so far and is a Staff Sergeant with the 1115th Det 3 Transportation Company.  He is married and has three children. He is currently serving his second term as School Board President for Mesa Vista Consolidated School District. 

He has stated that he strongly believes in education and transparency within the school district. After all, he says, our children are the future for us!

Kisha Maestas, Board Vice President

Kisha Maestas has been a member of the Ojo Caliente community for 17 years. She is married and has three children, two of which attend/or have attended the Mesa Vista schools. Kisha has spent most of her adult life working with children and finding ways to help in their growth and development. She served as the administrative coordinator  for Moving Arts Espanola, a non-profit that provides opportunities to children in northern New Mexico. She is also an advocate for children with learning disabilities.

She has a concentration in accounting from Northern New Mexico College and a Bachelor of Science in Management from the University of Phoenix. She became an international artist her senior year in high school and continues to support the arts in New Mexico.

She wants to see the Mesa Vista schools succeed and provide a well rounded education that prepares it’s students for a great future. She wants to make sure our students can not only compete on a state level but have the education to compete on a national level as well.

Moises Peña graduated from Mesa Vista High School in 1997.  He is a proud member of the 1997 AA State Basketball Championship team.  After graduation, he attended Northern New Mexico College where he concentrated on basic studies.

In January of 1999, Mr. Peña found his calling in public service.  He began his career as a public servant working at the Española City Jail.  When he reached 21 years of age, he began his career as a police officer.  Mr. Peña served as a patrol officer for approximately four years until he reached the rank of detective with the Española Police Department, where he served for approximately 10 years.  Mr. Peña has since been employed as a supervisor at the Rio Arriba County Detention Center.  He is currently a proud Deputy of the Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s Office.

Mr. Peña was elected in February of 2017 to the Mesa Vista Consolidated School Board of Education where he currently serves as School Board Secretary.

Moises has a vision of the Mesa Vista Consolidated Schools soon becoming the mecca of public education.  His vision is that all students are either prepared to excel in advanced learning institutions, technical schools or striving to become productive members of society in today’s workforce. 

Andy R. Lopez, Board Member

Mr. Andy Lopez graduated from Mesa Vista High School in 1971. He attended the University of New Mexico before transferring to New Mexico Highlands University where he graduated with a double major in Biology and Social Science in 1977. He earned his MBA from the College of Santa Fe in 1991.

During the summers of his college years he worked at the Los Alamos National Laboratory until joining them full time in 1973. He worked on the Controlled Thermo-Nuclear Reactor Experiment that was attempting to fuse hydrogen atoms to each other to create energy that could be used to power the country.

He returned to teach Social Science at Mesa Vista Middle and High School from 1978-1979. During this time he taught grades 8th-12th.

Mr. Lopez has plenty of experience with the Mesa Vista School Board. He was first elected to it in 1997. He served until 2001 during which time he was elected to President in 1999. He was then re-elected in 2003 and served until 2007. During this time he served as Secretary from 2003-2005 and President 2006-2007. He was currently re-elected in 2015 and is served as President until 2016. 

Mr. Lopez is also currently the CEO of Las Clinicas Del Norte. He started in 1984 and has helped grow the clinics from one small medical program that was started by the Mesa Vista School District to the organization that now has five sites that service the surrounding communities with three practicing locations and four school based clinics.
